Another Music Favorite
May 19, 2009 at 10:26 pm | In Music | Leave a CommentI’ve been posting about music a lot, but this is the time of year where I’m searching all over for a) recital pieces for my students and b) new stuff for me to play because I’m getting bored.
In Wives and Daughters, Molly’s stepmother asks her to play ‘that little piece of Kalkbrenner’s.’ I’ve found the music for it, for free download here.
Why is it called ‘that little piece of Kalkbrenner’s’ when it is written by a composer called Field? I have no idea. I did a bit of research and was unable to unearth any clues. Anyone have an idea?
A New Favorite Classical Piece
May 19, 2009 at 10:10 pm | In Music | Leave a CommentWhile working or studying, I often stream WCPE. Recently, they played a piece I had never heard and instantly fell in love with – Scottish Fantasy by Rudolf Kempe. There are 4 movements, which I will post here, but the 4th movement is by far the best…so if you have time to only listen to one, skip to the end.
For A Relaxing Tuesday Evening
May 12, 2009 at 10:24 pm | In Music | 5 CommentsI’ve loved this simple classical piece by Eric Satie for a long time, especially when played on piano. You’ve probably heard it before:
I recently discovered the sheet music online here. Just scroll down through the list to Eric Satie’s Gymnopedies No. 1, 2, and 3. There’s lots of other good music there too, but you can only download 3 pieces a day.
Maple Leaf Rag
May 6, 2009 at 10:08 pm | In Music | 2 CommentsI think that this might possibly be the ‘funnest’ song ever to play:
Except when I play it, it’s at approximately half that speed.
I especially like the measure right at 1:53. It reminds me of something, but I can’t quite place what it is.
